Mediation & Arbitration Services

Abraham Lincoln once said that the lawyer serves the client much better in the role of the peacemaker. David Johnson agrees that in almost every case helping the parties reach an agreement they craft is far better than a courtroom battle with an uncertain outcome.

David has served as a family court magistrate and GAL in many high conflict custody cases. He has been a family law lawyer for over 35 years. He has provided mediation, mediation-arbitration and arbitration services for over 20 years in hundreds of cases. He has served as a special master on several cases involving complex discovery issues.

In 2018 David decided to focus his practice on these services and to devote 100% of his time to mediation and mediation-arbitration work. David brings a wealth of experience in all areas of family law to the table, including high conflict cases, disputes over parental responsibilities and parenting time, complex property issues, business valuations and maintenance and child support disputes. David understands that the primary role of a good lawyer and a good mediator is to help the parties solve their problems and to avoid the costs, stress and risk of litigation. His experience allows him to assist the parties and their lawyers arrive at reasonable compromise solutions to those problems. As a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and a prior recipient of the Colorado Bar Association’s ICON Award, David has been recognized by his peers as an outstanding family law lawyer and problem solver.

David provides flexible half day or full day time slots for mediation and mediation-arbitration sessions. His office provides comfortable separate conference rooms with wi-fi access. David is familiar with Xcel spreadsheets and can update and amend spreadsheets during the sessions so that proposals and alternative proposals can be created and reviewed quickly. He also can run real time maintenance and child support calculations based on the information provided by the parties and their lawyers. If agreements are reached he will draft a memorandum of agreement that allows the parties to leave the session with a signed agreement that can be filed with the court. If an arbitration award is to be issued David will typically have the award for the parties and counsel to review within 7 days of any hearing.

For the convenience of the parties and counsel sessions can be booked on the calendar that is on this website. Mr. Johnson’s fees are based on a rate of $250/hour and are normally shared between the parties and collected at the time of service.
